IONIQ 5

Design Story

IONIQ 5’s distinctive and innovative design provides a unique experience that can only be enjoyed in dedicated BEVs,
suggesting a fundamental shift in design approach.

Its front end is adorned with arrays of pixel-inspired lights suggestive of the digital technology within.

IONIQ 5 is also the first Hyundai vehicle to feature a clamshell hood that spans the entire width of the car,
thus minimizing panel gaps and creating a clean and high-tech overall look.

Aero-optimized wheels further echo the Parametric Pixel design theme, offered in a super-sized 20-inch diameter, the largest rims ever fitted to a Hyundai EV.

These complete IONIQ 5’s perfected proportions, optimized for Hyundai’s new signature dedicated EV architecture.

Three ‘Ultimate Camping’ videos show a camper using various electrical appliances powered
by IONIQ 5’s Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology that functions as a general power supply.

In each video, the camper is seen using IONIQ 5’s 3.5KW of V2L-supplied power
to roast a turkey in a large oven, listen to music on high-end audio speakers, and exercise on a treadmill—all at a camping site.

Ultra-Fast Charging

From 10% to 80%
Only in 18 minutes

The ‘5 Min Challenge’ video highlights IONIQ 5’s ultra-fast charging capability that enables it to drive more than 100km with only a 5-minute charge (WLTP Standard). To showcase this extraordinary performance, a movie trailer-style challenge was set up featuring IONIQ 5 and three devices—a smartphone, laptop and action camera—that were each charged for 5 minutes and competed to be the last to survive.

E-GMP

A first technological milestone
for entering the era of EV expansion

The E-GMP, a dedicated EV platform is the result of efforts in responding to customers’ new lifestyle and different use cases.
The E-GMP is the foundation for Hyundai Motor Group’s next-generation EV lineups including IONIQ 5.

It offers a smooth and stable driving performance unique to EV-based platforms.

Furthermore, its solid body framework provides stability and durability as well as flexibility for differentiated interior spaces and enhanced usability exclusive to dedicated EVs.

E-GMP Body framework

The key features of E-GMP include a modular concept for versatility to meet the various needs of customers, performance optimized for Evs, reliability to ensure the safety of passengers in unexpected events and a high level of usability for customers.

1. Modular Concept

E-GMP also accommodates a wide range of vehicle types, driving distances, and lifestyles through a standardized battery system equipped with technology optimized for EVs.

2. Performance

In the space freed up by removing the internal combustion engine, we have mounted the driving motor low down.
The battery is also placed low down within the chassis allowing ideal weight distribution between front and rear and a low center of gravity for improved handling performance and a more stable high-speed experience.

E-GMP Performance

3. Reliability

E-GMP embraces unique EV design characteristics such as short overhangs and a long wheelbase collision safety, maximized passenger space, and battery safety.

4. Usability

E-GMP enables the creation of innovative interiors designed uniquely for Evs to provide a new electrified mobility experience for our customers.

The space-consuming AC system has been moved from inside the car to the extra space created by replacing the engine with an electric motor leaving more room for passengers in the front.(Pic 1)

The low-mounted battery and the flat floor from removal of the center tunnel result in much more legroom for passengers.(Pic 2)

The flat floor also allows front and back seats to be arranged in numerous ways accommodating the various use patterns and lifestyles of our customers and providing an innovative electrified experience that only EVs can offer.(Pic 3)
