Hyundai Motor Company signed an MOU with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Citizens Coalition for Safety (CCS) for the development and distribution of a traffic safety guidebook for children who are three to five years old on April 30th, 2015, at The K Hotel. The MOU ceremony was attended by MOLIT Minister Yoo Il-ho, CCS Representative Song Ja and Hyundai Motor Company President Chung Jin-haeng.
The goal of this MOU is to prevent children’s traffic accidents and raise awareness on traffic safety amidst a situation where the traffic fatalities of children under seven years old takes up 58% of all children traffic fatalities and where shuttle bus traffic accidents are rising in number as well.
According to the MOU, Hyundai Motor Company will develop and produce a total of 150 thousand volumes of traffic safety guidebooks every year and distribute them to nursery schools.
The first 100 thousand volumes will be distributed to those nursery schools within local government areas where the traffic culture index is below 20%. The rest of the volumes, 50 thousand in total, will be distributed to those nursery schools who have applied for one via the Kids Hyundai webpage (http://kids.hyundai.com) in order of application.
In addition, the company will develop an e-book version of the guidebook, so that it will be possible for everyone to download it.
The young children’s traffic safety guidebook consists of six categories: traffic environment (traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, footways, roadways, etc.), how to walk safely through pedestrian crossings, advice for walking during different situations, how to safely use wheeled rides, how to safely use transportation means, and traffic safety games.
